Software vendor ChipSoft, which supplies the majority of Dutch hospitals with an electronic patient record (EPR), is facing a ransomware attack (digital attack). As a result, some healthcare organizations have decided to temporarily shut down their patient portals as a precaution. We understand that this may raise questions.
Therefore, we have listed some frequently asked questions. If your question is not listed below, or if you require a personal consultation, please do not hesitate to call us directly at 085 – 1304 575. Our staff are ready to assist you! Would you like to know what impact this has on your specific situation? Then please contact your own healthcare organization.
1. “Has my medical record been hacked or leaked?”
This depends on the healthcare institution where you are receiving treatment. The supplier is conducting an investigation with external parties to thoroughly determine this. Many healthcare institutions indicate that their systems are well secured and that there are no indications that patient data has been accessed. Please review the communication from your own healthcare institution regarding what applies to you.
2. “Are my data still safe?”
As far as is currently known, healthcare organizations are taking extra measures to protect data. In many cases, patient data is stored in secure environments within the healthcare institution itself. There are currently no concrete indications that data is unsafe, but the investigation is ongoing.
3. “Why can't I log in to the patient portal?”
This is due to an outage currently at the supplier (ChipSoft). Some healthcare organizations have temporarily taken the portal offline as a precaution. This is intended to mitigate risks.
4. “When will it work again?”
That is not yet known at this time. The supplier is conducting an investigation and rectification. We advise you to monitor your healthcare organization's website or communications for updates.
5. “Is my appointment or treatment still going ahead?”
Appointments and treatments will, in principle, continue as usual. Healthcare providers often have alternative ways to continue their work. The healthcare organization itself will contact you in the event of any changes.
6. “What should I do now?”
You do not need to do anything yourself. It is especially important to follow the communications from your healthcare organization. If anything changes that is relevant to you, you will be informed by your healthcare institution.
7. “Is my healthcare institution accessible?”
In principle, your healthcare institution can be reached via the usual routes.
8. “Why don't I see my healthcare institution in my PGO?”
Healthcare providers using ChipSoft software are temporarily unavailable in the PGO. This is due to a technical measure taken by the supplier as a precaution. Everything is being restored, and these healthcare providers are expected to be available again next week.
